Because Only Together We Can
Building a World Where All SCD WINNING Warriors Are Safe, Strong & Valued
Who We Are
The ‘Gail Sickle initiative is a registered, non-governmental organisation that was established to make life better for people living with sickle cell disease in all ramifications possible. Most SCD winning warriors in Nigeria are victims of abject poverty, stigmatization and have little or no access to standard medical care & basic needs. ‘Gail Sickle Initiative lends a hand by operating through 4 channels.
- Partnership that works
— Sickle Strong
The SickleStrong channel focuses on all health related matters. this varies from hosting specialists on health care discussions for winning warriors, providing routine supplements, assisting with medical bills, negotiating with health insurance organisations on the best/affordable options for people living with sickle cell disease and herbal remedies (if any( for winning warriors.
The SicklePreneur channel seeks to reduce the stigmatization winning warriors experience through empowerment. Most employers in this part of the world avoid employing people loving with sickle cell disorder. Unfortunately, a large percentage of adults with sickle cell in Nigeria don’t complete tertiary education because of frequent visits to the hospital. Others are unemployed but the few that are employed have to battle the inconsistency of their health condition. As such, GSI helps them acquire skills of their choice, purchases the relevant tools and encourages them to start their own business. This helps them to work at their own pace.
— Sickle Swag
The SickleSwag channel showcases winning warriors at our annual fundraising concert, & poetry presentation. They sing songs and recite poems about their experiences with sickle cell disease. This gives their audience a better understanding about them and erase any bias. The aim is to bring as many winning warriors as possible to the limelight.
I knew Gail Sickle Initiative through my sister and since then, I have always loved the organisation. the knowledge, care and protection from this guys are the best.
Since i knew the organisation, I learnt how to cope with stigmatization & the best part of it is, we are stronger than we think.
